Wylie Lake Fishing Excursions

Remote Fly-In Fishing in Northern Alberta

Wylie Lake Lodge is a fly-in fishing destination located deep in Northern Alberta’s boreal forest. As the only lodge on Wylie Lake, guests experience complete seclusion and uninterrupted access to the water. Accessible only by floatplane, the lodge offers a private, remote experience centered on fishing, quiet surroundings, and time away from day-to-day distractions.

Wylie Lake is a large, productive lake with a strong cold-water fishery and ample space to explore. With no other camps or lodges on the lake, guests enjoy true solitude. The setting is quiet, the fishing is consistent, and the pace is intentionally unhurried.

The Lake

Wylie Lake covers more than 4,500 acres, providing anglers with extensive shoreline, sheltered bays, and deeper basins. With exclusive access to the entire lake, guests can spread out, explore different areas each day, and adjust fishing strategies based on conditions without pressure or competition.

  • Surface Area: Approximately 1,821 hectares (4,500+ acres)

  • Average Depth: Approximately 20–25 feet

  • Maximum Depth: Approximately 70–76 feet

The lake features a mix of moderate depths and deeper areas that support lake trout, while bays and structure provide excellent habitat for northern pike.

Fishing at Wylie Lake

Wylie Lake is best known for lake trout and northern pike, with consistent opportunities for large fish. Because the lodge is the only operation on the lake, fishing pressure is minimal and conditions remain stable throughout the season. The lake also supports a healthy population of lake whitefish, offering variety for anglers during their stay.

  • Recorded weights up to 19 kg (42 lbs)

  • Trout can be found at varying depths depending on season, water temperature, and weather

Northern Pike

Pike are commonly found in sheltered bays, along weedlines, and along shoreline structure.

  • Recorded weights up to 16 kg (35 lbs)

  • Known for aggressive strikes and reliable action

Lake Whitefish

Very large lake whitefish are present and are frequently encountered while fishing the lake.

Fly-In Access

Access to Wylie Lake Lodge is by chartered floatplane, landing directly on the lake. The flight itself marks a clear transition from road access to remote wilderness and complete isolation.

Most guests find that a 3–4 day stay allows enough time to fish multiple areas of the lake and settle into the routine of lodge life without feeling rushed.

While fishing is the primary focus, guests also value Wylie Lake for:

  • Quiet surroundings with no road access or neighbouring lodges

  • Evenings spent off the water without schedules or distractions

This is a destination for anglers who want exclusive water, space, time, and reliable fishing in a truly remote setting.
